MICHEL DONTENVILLE (1820 - 1889)

Michel Dontenville, son of Jean Michel Dontenville and Susanne Jean and stepbrother of Ludwig was born in St. Maurice, Alsace on September 9th 1820. He worked as a vigneron in the Valley's wine growing industry. On May 27, 1849 he married Marie Anne Duffner who was born in St. Maurice but living in Neuve Eglise at the time of the marriage.

In 1850, when his brother Ludwig left with his family for the United States, Michael and Marie Anne moved into Ludwig's home on Rue de Eglise in St. Maurice.Their six children were born there; Alexius, 1851; Wallace, 1853; Julie, 1854; Alphonse, 1857; Philomene 1859; and Emile in 1862. Two of their sons, Wallace and Emile immigrated to the United States. Michel and Marie Anne Dontenville remained in Alsace until their deaths, Michel's on September 4, 1889.
