Philomena Dontenville, the youngest daughter and fifth child of Michel Dontenville and Marie Anne Duffner, was born in St. Maurice, Alsace. Philomene married Laurent Matt from Trimbach au Val. They raised five children: Emile born in 1888; Odile,1889; Mathilde,1896;Fortune, 1897; and Joseph, 1900.

Her eldest son Emile, was present at a family reunion in California in the late 1920's. It is possible that other members of the Matt family spent time in the United States and returned to Alsace. Philomene died in 1931. She may be buried in the cemetery in Nueve-Eglise, where her son Joseph's grave is found.
