Elizabeth, sixth of the eight children, was born in Serena Township, LaSalle County, Illinois July 20, 1885. She was seven years old when her parents moved to Humbolt County, Iowa.She attended schools in Deer Creek Township. Elizabeth married George Gardner. It is believed that the Gardners farmed for awhile and then moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa. Elizabeth died at her home in Fort Dodge on June 11, 1915 at age 30. She left two young daughters, Ethel and Elizabeth. Upon the death of Mary Elizabeth, Edward and Mary Ulrich took their young niece Elizabeth (Betty) into their home and raised her as their own.
