Fred Dondanville, the sixth of eight children of Emile Dondanville and Marie Schumacher, was born in San Gabriel, California, April 27, 1898. He was baptized at Mission San Gabriel, December 17, 1899. He grew up in the family home on East Mission Drive in San Gabriel.
Following high school, Fred followed his older brother into the United States Marine Corps. The period following World War I found him serving with the U.S. Consular Service in the Philippines. He held the rank of corporal and was stationed at the Marine Barracks at Cavite, across the Bay from Manila. Completing his military service, he returned to San Gabriel where he found work with the U.S. Post Office Department as a railway postal clerk.
In the early 1930s Fred married Eileen Regina Condon. Eileen, the daughter of Patrick Condon and Katherine Flaherty, was born in Iowa, September 1, 1893. Fred and Eileen's first child, Richard, was born in Alhambra, California in 1933. A daughter, Nancy was born in Alhambra in1934. In 1937 the family moved into a home at 456 North Gerona Street. The children grew up there.
Fred spent his entire career with the Postal Service, retiring in the 1960s.They continued to live in their home on Gerona Street. Eileen died on February 16, 1976 at age 82. Shortly after her death the home in San Gabriel was sold and Fred moved to Northridge, California to be near Nancy and her family. Fred died in a nursing home in Northridge, September 14, 1985. Fred and Eileen were buried at the San Gabriel Mission Cemetery.

born August 31, 1934 in Alhambra, married John Mecozzi on September 28, 1958 at the San Gabriel Mission. Four children: Judith Marie, '59; David John, '61; Thomas Fredrick in, '62, and Donna Eileen, '70. Living in Camarillo, California.
