Henry Leo Julian Chalus, the second of five children of Frances Dondanville and Antoine Charles Chalus, was born in Serena Township, LaSalle County, Illinois November 20, 1870. He moved to Iowa with his parents in 1882 at age 12. Worked as a streetcar conductor in Davenport, Iowa. Married Sadie Truesdale. Upon the death of his brother Edward, who also lived in Dubuque, Henry moved to Davenport. He died December 10, 1939 and was buried in Guttenberg, Iowa.
