Rosa Benoit, second of thirteen children of Mary Ann Dondanville and Lester Benoit, was born in Serena Township, LaSalle County, Illinois in 1865. Her parents moved to Webster County, Iowa in 1874 when Rosa was nine. On February 16, 1889, Rosa was married in St. Matthew's Church in Clare, Iowa to John Mc Mahon, son of Thomas Mc Mahon and Bridget Fodge. John and Rosa established a farm on 240 acres in Section 14 of Jackson Township north of Clare. Five children were born to their marriage: Estella, about 1890; Catherine Mae, in 1892; Vincent,1893; Michael, about 1894; and Loretta in 1895.
Vincent married Mae Ford February 25, 1919. They had three children, Marie, Thomas, and Mark. They farmed for many years on land adjacent to his parent's farm. They retired in 1964, and moved to Clare. Mike Mc Mahon married Agnes Byrne on January 16, 1915. They were the parents of Joseph, Edward, Eileen, and Raymond. They farmed until 1937, then moved to Clare. Mike operated a service station and was mayor of Clare for several terms. Estella Mc Mahon married Edward Ford in 1930. They farmed the land adjacent to Vincent's that had been Estelle's parent's farm. A son John was born about 1918 and daughters Mary in about 1920 and Agnes in 1928.There is no information on further children.
Loretta Mc Mahon was born August 10, 1895. She married John B. Hood. They were the parents of Leonard, Paul, John, Rosemary, Harold, and Catherine. Loretta celebrated her 80th birthday in 1975 with many of her thirty-six grandchildren present. She died January 15, 1978. Catherine Mae Mc Mahon married David Tancik. They had at least two children. Nothing further is known of their family. Rosa died in 1929 at age 64. John Hood died in 1942
