Max, youngest of the five children of Felix Dondeville and Margaret Schmidt, was born in St. Louis, Missouri, March 15, the place of that birth is not known. The Little Rock, Arkansas, 1893 City Directory lists Max Dondeville as a photographer, working for R.S. Kettering, photographer, and boarding at 1122 Main Street in Little Rock. Family members believe that he may, at one time, also have been a news photographer. Max died in St. Louis on May 7, 1908. His obituary listed his occupation as photographer and his marital status as widower. There was no mention of children
