Vinton Loyal Dondanville and his twin brother Vernon Royal were born in Sheridan, Illinois on April 16, 1979, the third and fourth children of Louis Dondanville and Janette May Beardsley. Referred to by his parents as Vinnie, he grew up in Sheridan and attended local schools.

In the early 1900s Vinton married Eliza A. Bernard. Through most of their marriage they lived in Sheridan although it is known that they were living in Lake Zurich, Illinois at the time of Louis' death in 1927. There were no children born to their marriage. Little else is known about this couple. Vinton died on October 23, 1950 and Eliza on July 27, 1952. Both are buried in the Sheridan Cemetery
