Clara Elizabeth Chalus, the fourth of five children of Frances Dondanville and Antoine Charles Chalus, was known as Libbie. She was born in Serena Township. LaSalle County, Illinois July 1, 1875. She moved to Iowa with her parents at age 7. In 1899 she married William McCreery ,a young doctor from Dana, Iowa, who was practicing medicine in Pioneer. Doctor McCreery moved his practice to Whittemore, Iowa in 1900 where their two daughters Ruth and Catherine were born. Ruth died in 1907 at age 6. Catherine, born in 1911, died in 1924. In 1948 the Iowa Medical Society honored Doctor McCreery for fifty years of dedicated service as a physician. Doctor McCreery died in Whittemore February 1, 1949. Libbie died August 23, 1956.
