Edward Benoit was the eleventh child of Mary Ann Dondanville and Lester Benoit. He was born on the family farm near Clare on May 22, 1883. He married Elizabeth Ivory, daughter of Patrick Ivory. They established their home in Clare where Ed was in the Implement Business for many years. There were no children. In the late 1920s, Ed and Elizabeth took their niece Mary Ivory into their home. She lived with them from age 3 to 18. The History of St. Matthew's Parish in Clare reports the years of birth of both Ed and Elizabeth to be 1877. Ed's is known to be incorrect. Elizabeth's year of death is reported as 1945, and Ed's as 1951.
